Tower Bridge is undergoing an essential and exciting 3-year refurbishment programme of painting works and stone cleaning. We at Tower Bridge feel this project has a positive tourism draw as a landmark event only occurring once every quarter-century. We are committed to keeping all parties advised of progress, and are pleased to provide you with the following update.
The upcoming stage of the restoration focuses on the bascules, the ‘see-saw’ elements of the road which are raised for river vessels to pass through
We are pleased to announce that Tower Bridge Exhibition will remain fully open throughout this stage of the restoration.
The restoration of the bascules will begin in the last week of October 2010. Work will be carried out between 08.00 and 18.00 Monday to Friday, and between 10.00 and 16.00 on Sundays. According to the schedule we have been given, it is expected that the restoration of Tower Bridge will be complete by late March 2011.
Work will continue to be carried out to the highest safety standards under the supervision of the Health and Safety Executive. There will also be strict control of the noise caused by the works.
The Tower Bridge Exhibition will function as normal.
